Professional Associations are Formed for
Many Reasons and Purposes.
The Nine Lives Associates (N.L.A.)
was Formed to Designate a
Shared Training Experience Offered Through the
Executive Protection Institute, Berryville, Virginia.

WHAT DOES BEING A NINE LIVES ASSOCIATES MEMBER REPRESENT?
The Katrina Hurricane disaster is the foremost example of what it means to be a member of the Nine Lives Associates Family.
When Katrina struck the New Orleans area it also caused extreme wind and water damage to Gretna Louisiana, an immediate neighboring city. The Executive Protection Institute maintains an office in Gretna under the Director of Operations Anthony H. Christiana, Jr., a Major with the Gretna Police Department. The N.L.A. has a strong membership in Gretna, New Orleans, Jefferson Parish and vicinity.
A call for assistance was posted on the “Nine Lives Associates Members Only ” on-line message board. The response was magnificent and one of the “finest hour” memories of the 29 year old association.
Dozens of N.L.A. members volunteered their time for weeks of service traveling at their own expense to Louisiana. All had been trained by the Executive Protection Institute. The N.L.A. volunteers were sworn in as armed officers of the Gretna Police Department and served in various assignments. They assisted the regular police force in patrol, fixed posts, protecting property and providing personal protection for officials and other emergency personnel.
Numerous incidents of special service beyond the call of duty were reported as members served the community needs. Some N.L.A. members, trained in the medial profession, provided direct medial assistance; others utilized their language skills in rendering aid. After completing their daily tour of duty, some N.L.A. members obtained food and water and provided same to comfort the helpless animals abandoned by their owners.
Cash donations exceed $40,000. Donations of food, water, clothing, medical supplies, toilet articles, kitchen utensils, uniforms, caps, gun belts, holsters, protective vests, boots, shoes and medical supplies, with a value of millions of dollars, were arranged for and personally delivered via tractor trailers, vans, trucks and aircraft to Gretna. The supplies exceeded the needs of the city of Gretna and were shared with communities throughout the region.
HONORING HEROS
To commemorate and award all participants who assisted the City of Gretna during this disaster, the Executive Protection Institute, in conjunction with Chief Arthur Lawson of the Gretna Police Department, commissioned a special N.L.A. Katrina Disaster Medal. The medal is on a neck ribbon with a matching uniform ribbon and was presented to all Gretna Police Officers and Emergency Personnel, N.L.A. members who assisted on-site or arranged for donations and volunteer police officers from other jurisdictions throughout the nation who served in Gretna. The special awards program was held during the Nine Lives Associates Twenty-Fifth Annual Conference at the World War 11 Museum in New Orleans Louisiana on December 10, 2006.
THE N.L.A. FAMILY
Since 1978 over 2,600 graduates have become a part of the “N.L.A. Family.”
